2004 Alpaca News
- This breeding year we have tried using some full Peruvian Rural Allianza males on our Accoyo cross females. These males were specifically selected for their fineness and staple length. We are looking forward to 2005 to see the results.
- In the summer the farm purchased a herdsire MMR Entero, an Alpamayo son, in partnership with Ron and Sharon Louthan. Entero was selected for his soft handle, bundling and tight crimp; a CV of 14.5 was also of interest. He also will be used on the Accoyo line crosses.
- The last purchase of the year was a young male, Amber Crucero, who was reserve champion white male at the Alpaca Odyssey show in Edmonton in November. This male has an incredibly soft fleece but what made the decision for the purchase was his classic looks; straight back, big broad body, great coverage and a perfect head. He is only 1½ years old so he might be held over for breeding until 2006.
